An excellent result in Familia Martínez Bujanda’s harvest

At the end of the harvest season, it is time to make an assessment of the results obtained in our estates. Fortunately, we can affirm that the harvest has been very positive in Finca Valpiedra, Finca Antigua and Finca Montepedroso.

According to experts, there has been less volume throughout Spain but, in general terms, with better quality. In fact, in the DOCa Rioja, the 2019 harvest is being classified as historic, with results that can be very prominent in both, young wines and those destinated to have long ageing.

This harvest has been characterized by less compact clusters and smaller grapes, factors that indicate the highest quality of the wines that will be made.
In addition, the extraordinary weather conditions have caused this vintage to be unique and, although it is early to advance results, we can be in the face of a year to remember.

For its part, the D.O. Rueda says that 2019 vintage is the second-best harvest in its history with about 114 million kilos and with results to be expected that will achieve excellence.

The technical director of Familia Martinez Bujanda, Lauren Rosillo, has made a very positive balance of the harvest in our three estates highlighting the favorable previous weather conditions and the excellent fruit obtained from each of them.

Finca Valpiedra: balanced vintage

According to Lauren Rosillo, this could be “one of the best vintages in Rioja of the 21st Century”, and he highlights the balance as the most relevant feature. The year has been fairly dry, with a mild summer and some storms that have alleviated the deficit of precipitation in spring and without extreme heat, which has contributed to a slow ripening of the grapes.

Excellent vintage in Finca Antigua

2019 vintage is one of the best in the history of the winery. After the rainfall we had in Easter, spring and summer were very dry so, the rains in September have made possible that the ripening of the grapes were optimally completed.

Nigth harvest at Finca Montepedroso

The harvest at Finca Montepedroso took place in two nights. After an extraordinarily dry year, 2019 has been one of those rare occasions in which we have had to use our irrigation system, as it happened in 2012, which has allowed us to obtain a balanced, fresh and full of nuance grapes, an ideal raw material to make our Finca Montepedroso.
